Gas Prices

I recently watched the reprodcast of the House and Senate heairngs on price goughing by the major oil companies. I must admit I was not at all impressed by our "public servants". We all know big oil showed big profits for the last quarter. No doubt SOME of these profits came from the rise ing prices at the pump. What the government and the media are not telling you is that there is a gasoline tax in every state that gets added to the price of gas. In Pennsylvania we pay 50 cents per gallon in taxes on top of the price of gas. So if the gas station charges 1.50 a gallon, they have to add .50 to the price making it 2.00 dollars a gallon. In California. the tax per gallon is .60 cents. It seems to me, that the government should LOWER gas taxes for the consumer instead of whining about how much big oil's profits are.

Barbar Boxer D-Ca, asked the panel of oil execs if they would consider basically refunding their "RECORD" profits to the consumer because it wasn't fair for them to make money in the aftermath of Katrina. This kind of thinking opens up a whole other can of worms. Is she suggesting that all profits made by all copmpanies during a crisis be refunded to the consumer? I will pose this question: Is Barbara Boxer suggesting all financial gain in this country be shared equally? If so, Is she willing to put hers in the pot as well? I SERIOUSLY DOUBT IT!

One of the Republicans on the legislative side asked about the high cost of diesel fuel. Apparrently it is still much higher than pre-Katrina prices. I believe the answer had to do with the refing process for diesel being more complicated than for gasoline. That isn't the subject I wanted to touch on. This same person hinted that there wouln"t be any agriculture in this country because of the shortage of and cost of diesel fuel for tractors and trucks and farm equipment in general. Well, I have a suggestion for thesew legislatie idiots, BUILD MORE REFINERIES! This will result in a bigger supply and LOWER prices. These so called "Public Servants" just don"t get the point. THEY ARE TO BLAME for the lack of supply and high costs. This coountry needs to be more dependent on itself for energy and less dependent on foriegn oil. We need more refineries and less governmental mouth-running!
